Jael Lieta is a journalist with over 14 years experience in radio broadcast coupled with media management. Lieta started off in management as an administrator at Radio Nam Lolwe in Kisumu and moved to managing Sky FM, a regional radio station based in Kisumu.

She has been working as a media trainer, mentor and coach for more than 5 years together with various journalists across the country. Lieta has been providing training in content development, gender mainstreaming, story pitching for journalists, and media planning among others. Her experience as a trained moderator and event manager includes 3 annual conferences with over 100 participants and speakers.

As a media viability consultant (MVC) Lieta has taken a keen interest in content production through a module called Audience research and Digital trends in the newsroom. These two are close to her heart as a journalist and media manager as they are the aspects most small and medium media houses struggle with and she is highly motivated to help other media houses achieve their dreams in using the right tools to put their audience first and increase visibility digitally.

What motivates you to be part of the Media Viability ecosystem?

What motivates me is to lend a hand and expertise in the challenges media houses face in their day to day running. I come in to not only learn as I consult but also share relatable experience as a media manager. Getting other people’s experiences helps in fine-tuning ways of finding workable solutions for the media houses.

What impact do you want to make in the media sector?

I am looking at the regional media houses shining in the content they produce, in audience engagement, in their in-house running, in staff relations, basically being all-round perfection. Building the skills base of the staff that also helps the media house in it’s growth and development.

What can media organisations as beneficiaries expect when they work with you?

Understanding of how the media landscape works. This comes through the gathered experience through the years and tailor-made solutions to the various challenges they are facing. They should expect a listening ear, a team worker and solution oriented consultant.
