Community Training: Pitching Stories Well

One of the incessant concerns of many journalists around the world is why their stories “die” in newsrooms not to see the light of the day. Against this broader editorial puzzle, the training is to help participants to start developing in-depth story-pitching techniques that quickly attract the eye of a news manager. Through sharing of experiences, the innovators will detect gaps and buttress with their existing professional practices to start getting value tips on how to shape, focus and provide the kinds of storylines that have editors gushing.

 


Trainer: Mike Wanyama Chebusiri

Mike Wanyama Chebusiri is a seasoned multimedia practioner of more than 25 years as content producer, Editor, Consultant and journalists’ trainer and coach. As News Editor for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in the East Africa bureau where he had a 17-year stint, Mr Chebusiri presided over the production of quality multimedia content from the region, supporting the corporation in reaching a monthly audience of 20 million people particularly in the Swahili language service on radio, television, digital and social media.

As a team player, Mr Chebusiri managed and supported a team of 20 journalist dotted across the East Africa region to produce quality, incisive and compelling journalism. He has hands-on extensive experience and good knowledge in media training and people management sphere, as well as having a clear understanding of international news and current affairs, the African media market and the impact of digital technology. Mr Chebusiri is a strong believer in value-addition journalism.
