African Innovation Stories: A Trilogy

May 11, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm UTC+3

African innovation is exciting and attracts significant attention. Many stories are told of successful fundraising by companies, mergers and acquisitions and successful investors leaving with hefty profits. Stories are told of African startup and innovation hotspots, sometimes even pitting region against region and country against country, other times celebrating strides made by the African ecosystem in attracting additional funding into the continent or of Africa emerging as a fintech leader.

Stories have been told of Africa’s non-existent or failing infrastructure, mobile penetration, and the ability of the tech ecosystem to increasingly attract the attention of large tech corporations offering solutions that will contribute to more development, more innovation, more funding, more jobs.  Everyone has a story to tell and some have perfected the art of storytelling so much so that their stories have defined innovation communities, educated national agendas, determined development or products and guided corporate strategies.

Stories are powerful. Storytelling is a powerful tool. It is a tool that can be used to teach, share and sell. Storytelling as a tool for African innovators has the potential to teach innovators to build scalable products, share experiences, build best practices and sell their products and services by humanising their brands.

African innovators can use storytelling as a tool to share Africa’s innovation experience and opportunity from their own lived experiences. Storytelling provides an opportunity for Africa’s innovators to speak to the world in their own words and to tell alternative, equally powerful stories of their lives, their communities,  and their impact.

Innovators can also tap into stories to understand local context, needs and strengths of the communities they seek to serve. This webinar will seek to share the vision of what is possible when African innovators tell their own stories and use storytelling in their work. We will hear from African innovators who are breaking barriers and creatively using the art of storytelling to advance their work and to share crucial messages with Africa and the rest of the world.
